There were so many fabrics that Jaron had given me as gifts that made me so sad to look at them. My family and my sewing friends told me to close the door and not go in there until I felt I was ready to. So for many weeks I wondered around my house going In and out of every other room like a dog and achieved nothing.
My sewing friends have been texting me to find out how I am doing and ask if I had started sewing - even sewing friends that I have never met that follow me on Instagram sent messages telling me how sewing was the one thing that saved them and brought them out of this black hole you end up in after losing a loved one.
I finally got up the courage and decided that I needed to do something to keep me from going crazy and going over the edge. The first project I decided to do was going to be something to honor Jaron’s memory. People who know me know that my three favorite fabric designers are Dolce and Gabbana, Liberty, and Lilly.
Jaron loved Liberty Shirts. He wore one to Seth and Jamie’s Chicago wedding and to their Rehearsal Dinner in Capri. So that was the project I was going to do - a Liberty Shirt to honor Jaron. It will now be called the Jaron shirt.
Creating and sewing this shirt and finding the joy in sewing again would not have ever happened without the love and support of my incredible family. My husband Brian, my son Seth, and my daughter-in-law Jamie as well as the unwavering compassion and caring I have had from my sewing sisters and the sewing community all over the world. I will forever be grateful that I have you in my life. Those ladies that I haven’t met, I hope that one day soon we will get to take a class together soon.
I can’t wait to see all the Jaron shirts posted on Instagram with #Jaron Shirt. Please stay safe and healthy during this very difficult time in the world.
Happy Sewing!
