When I decided to join the RTW Fasters I decided that my first creation for the new year would be a crazy patch work skirt. I have had a love affair with Crazy Patchwork ever since I purchased Barbara Randle's Crazy Patchwork With Attitude books. I also was very privileged to take a class with Barbara a few years ago. I created the skirt out of small pieces of winter fabrics and lace I had in my stash. I used Simplicity 2564 as the base pattern for my skirt.
I have made this pattern before so I knew it would fit. I started the base of my skirt with a very fine cotton batiste that I traced a rough outline of the skirt pattern. I then cut a 5 sided piece of fabric which I attached to the center of the batiste and then proceeded to add all the additional pieces of crazy patchwork until I have covered the entire piece of batiste. I did the same for both of the back pieces of the skirt. I then laid the pattern pieces back on the crazy patchwork pieces and cut out the front and back of the skirt. I lined the skirt with an fine orange batiste for a pop of color. I added and exposed metal zipper to the back of the skirt to make it fashion forward. I will be wearing this with my new knee high cowboy boots I just purchased. More photos to follow
